European Statistical Monitor: April edition
The latest monthly data shows mixed signals on the development of the EU economy. Industrial production rebounded slightly after a recent decline, while services continued to grow. By contrast, retail trade and production in construction weakened marginally, signalling softer consumer demand. Economic sentiment deteriorated further, reflecting lower confidence among consumers and retailers.
Inflation picked up for a second consecutive month, while house prices continued their steady upward trend, reaching new highs. Labour market conditions remained favourable, with unemployment stable at a low level. Tourism activity continued to expand, and asylum applications rose but remained at relatively low levels.
