Review and implementation of the degree of urbanisation – 2026 edition
This report reviews the implementation of the degree of urbanisation over the past six years. Endorsed by the United Nations for international comparison, it provides a globally comparable framework for classifying settlements. Through workshops, tools and methodological updates, it supports international harmonisation, enhancing understanding of how different types of settlements — from cities, to towns and semi-dense areas, and rural communities — function and evolve.
